The Double Whammy is a sequence of pantoums by poet Tom Breidenbach, with five original two-color woodcuts by artist Donald Baechler.
Tom Breidenbach was born in 1965 and grew up on a farm near Iliff, Colorado. He earned his BA degree from the University of Denver, and his MFA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He currently lives in New York City where he teaches English at Pace University. His poetry has appeared in American Poetry Review, The Mississippi Review, College English, The Denver Quarterly, The KGB BarBook of Poems, Lingo and other publications; The Double Whammy is his first book.
Donald Baechler was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1956, and studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore; Cooper Union, New York; and the Staatliche Hochschule für bildende Kunste, Frankfurt. His paintings, drawings and prints have been exhibited and published worldwide, and a retrospective of his work was shown in 1998-99 at the Galleria Civica d’Arte Contemporanea, Trento, Italy. He lives in New York City.
The Double Whammy was set in Monotype Bembo and printed letterpress on Zerkall paper. The woodcuts were printed directly from the blocks. The 64 page book is cloth-bound in linen and measures 10 x 7 inches. The edition is limited to 360 numbered copies, each signed by poet and artist.
