The definitive “Book of Bob.” This one-of-a-kind volume selectively chronicles the life, travels, pastimes, collections, enthusiasms, dreams and works of the artist Robert Andrew Parker, now in his 80s. With over 300 reproductions, most actual size, the book is a rich and delightful miscellany; it includes pages from Parker’s many travel sketchbooks, drawings from his earliest known “artist’s book” (compiled at age 8), representative prints, watercolors, paintings, models, studies for works-in-progess (History of Jazz: A to Z) as well as items from his personal collections, memorabilia and family photographs going back three generations . . .
Many of RAP’s hard-to-find published writings (from the New Yorker, Grand Street, and Village Voice) are reprinted here; other prose pieces—memories of growing up, on being attached to airforce combat units in Rwanda (1994) and Panama (1996)—appear here for the first time.
Robert Andrew Parker was born in 1927 and graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work is in the collections of MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum, and the Morgan Library. His drawings have appeared in over 90 books, many of which were shown at his 2009 exhibition at Davis and Langdale in New York City.
The book is accompanied by an original relief print created especially for this edition, hand colored (and also signed and numbered) by the artist.
